Work on Your Plumbing Business, instead of working in Your Plumbing Business
Work on Your Plumbing Business, instead of working in Your Plumbing Business
If you are unsure as to what this actually means, then read on for a full and frank explanation.
The term ‘working in your business’ means doing those mundane and routine tasks such as answering the telephone, making bookings for service calls, dispatching employees to tackle service calls, scheduling appointments and meetings, undertaking the management of all staff and employees, cleaning equipment and vehicles, the general upkeep of the premises and offices and so forth. Basically, it means tackling all of those necessary tasks that have to be completed on a daily basis, in order to maintain a healthy business.
However, ‘working on your business’, means taking charge of things such as planning the expansion of the business, by implementing new products and services, targeting a new demographic to attract more custom, dealing with marketing and advertisement strategies and much more. These are the kinds of things that will not just enable your business to keep on going, but will help your business to expand.
So, now you are getting an idea of the difference between the two analogies. Working in your business is not a problem, all business owners do it at some point, yet it is also important that you work on your plumbing business, and you need to make plans that will be a success.
As time goes by, and your plumbing business begins to grow, you need to be able to divert your energies away from work within your plumbing business. This means hiring other people who can tackle the day-to-day running of the business, whilst you switch your concentration on to working on your business, because if you don’t work on your business, no one else will. It is one business strategy that is very powerful.
If you take a look at some of the biggest and most successful companies and corporations out there today, all of them at some point in their past, would have had the founder or owner working in the business. This would have carried on for a little while before the owner or founder employed other people to carry out those tasks, whilst he concentrated on expanding the business and moving it forward. One of the main reasons why big companies are successful is because the people that matter are working on the business rather than in it.
This is one strategy that can work for your business too, so try and work more ‘on’ your business, rather than ‘in’ it, for better results.
